Welcome to Chesterton Primary School

I hope that our website reflects the enormous amount of pride that I have for the children, parents, staff and governors, who work so well together to make our school such an exciting place in which to learn, grow and succeed.

Our school motto is, “Learning Together. Growing Together. Succeeding Together.” We feel that the close, supportive collaboration that we have worked hard to establish with our children, parents and wider community allows our school to flourish in a harmonious and mutually respectful environment. Together, we foster the highest expectations of the ‘whole child’ at Chesterton Primary School and through the provision of a rigorous, child-centred, lively and exciting curriculum that promotes enquiry and exploration, risk-taking and resilience, our children develop and embed the ambition to achieve the very best that they can regardless of their different starting points.

Our dynamic and exciting school ‘converted’ to academy status on 1st October 2016, formalising our relationship with ‘Chesterton Community Sports College,’ ‘Churchfields Primary School’ and ‘Crackley Bank Primary School’ to join the ‘Chesterton Academy Trust.’  Collectively, we have a passion for making a difference and improving outcomes and achievement for every child.

Our school is located in the small, former mining village of Chesterton and sits close to the market town of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire. The school rests on the brow of a hill and from its large elevated sports field it has fantastic views across the vast former collieries of the Lyme Valley. The school offers purposeful provision for up to 16 two year olds and up to 52 part-time nursery children, (full-time wrap-around for Nursery aged children is also offered at an extremely competitive rate) each class with access to their own and each other’s recently purchased indoor and outdoor resources. The Reception class offers a very large, recently refurbished space, including an extensively decked and covered outdoor learning environment to support the continuous provision of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum beyond the classroom.

Key Stage 1 and 2 have their own secure playgrounds where children are encouraged to develop and refine their agility, strength and stamina through play and sports.  The children also have access to their own adventure playground and quiet corners are scattered around the grounds for those children who enjoy a quiet chat or simply want to look at the vegetables, herbs, spices and flowers grown in the school allotment.

This single-form entry school provides indoor learning environments that the children and staff alike are very proud of. Following an extensive structural redesign in 2015, each classroom and intervention room is now equipped with an interactive whiteboard.  WIFI access to laptops and iPads provide support to the Computing and wider curriculum. The school also has a delightfully, well-equipped Nurture facility to support children who may require additional emotional support.

Our exciting, broad and balanced curriculum is enriched by wider opportunities and experiences through the provision of an extensive extra-curricular programme of activities: from Football to Fencing; from the Performing Arts to Archery; from Stop-Animation to Cookery.  Please refer to our ‘Extra Curricular’ tab for our current timetable.

We hope that you enjoy looking at our website and that the information answers any questions that you may have about our school. However, should you require any additional information then please don’t hesitate to contact me or come in to see what we have to offer for yourself.  Visitors are always welcome.

We look forward to meeting you soon.
