Supporting your child's education is crucial to their attitude towards learning and their academic progress.

Helping your child with learning outside of school enhances your child's experiences, development and independence for learning as a lifelong, continual journey.

Our school is dedicated to supporting families with resources and knowledge to help with home learning.

Early Years Foundation Stage

Children in our EYFS access 'Busy Bags' which are resources, games and fun learning activities for parents and carers to share with their child through a borrowing, library-style service (free of charge).

All children have access to borrow books from school and we encourage families to share these stories, talk about the pictures and learn how to careful look at books.

Key Stage One

Talking with your child and spending time looking at books, reading, counting and exploring are valuable ways to support your child.

Joining a local library to visit once a month is a perfect and inexpensive way to support your child's learning. Local walks to talk about local surroundings is a good way to exercise and an opportunity to read signs, count objects (cars, trees, etc) are also ways to support learning.  Games such as dominoes, snakes and ladders and memory games develop communication, turn taking and numeracy skills.

School will provide your child with a reading book, which they should aim to read four times a week at home and record this in their reading log.  School have also paid for subscriptions for Numbots for each child, which can be accessed at home.

Supporting your child's early reading through Jolly Phonics songs and actions is a good way to consolidate learning through practise.

Key Stage Two

Reading

Every child should aim to read four times a week and record this in their reading log.
A record will be kept in school of the number of times that children are reading as this is vital for their learning, especially in preparation for their later education where they will be expected to read larger quantities of text.

Mathematics

Numbots or Times Tables Rockstar should be accessed as regularly as possible to develop children’s confidence and fluency with number work.  Children are expected to know all of their times tables facts including multiplication and division by the end of Year 4.

Spellings

Knowing how to spell supports children’s writing skills. Regular reading supports spellings.  Every week, there will be spellings to learn which will be tested and practised within the classroom.  SpellingShed is an online programme which children have access to through school to support learning of spellings.

Project

Project-based homework is set at various times throughout the year.  This is a creative and purposeful way to support learning.  Details will be shared on Class Dojo and with your child in class.

Thank you for your support your child's education.
