Charity and Community

The children at Chesterton are kind and caring and enjoy helping others and getting involved in community projects and fundraising for charity. We have two charity leaders who support the fundraising in school and our main charity is Alice as we try to give back to the charity that supports our school and families.

We would like to thank all of our families for the support they give to our fundraising efforts.

Below is a small sample of some of the things we do to make a difference to the people around us.

Alice Charity

Is a Staffordshire based charity
Alice ‘support our families in the Newcastle community with the right things, at the right time, in the right way, when no one else can.’

We encourage our children to throw their loose change into a giant bottle as a way of giving a little back to this amazing charity. We have also had non-uniform days to support Alice Charity and some of the proceeds from biscuits goes into our end of year Alice donation

Their support

Alice Charity supports our families and we have had
 Easter eggs for every child
 Christmas presents
 Food items for ‘grab and go’ to eliminate hunger
 Made referrals for white goods and school shoes

Salvation Army

https://www.salvationarmy.org.uk

We work with the Salvation Army in Chesterton to support our families. The Salvation Army offer a ‘warm space’ for families and supply our families with additional food items.

British Legion

Each year we support the Poppy Appeal in school. On average we raise about £140 by selling a range of items. We also get involved in community events around the cenotaph in Chesterton Park.

British Red Cross

We wanted to support the crisis in Ukraine and as a school, we held an amazing homemade cake sale to contribute to the cause. The school community raised £250 that was sent to the Red Cross to aid the recovery.

Community Links

Rowan Court

We have links to Rowan Court and have supported the care home with planting as well as cheering the residents up with our singing.
The residents have received postcards from our children outlining their favourite books and the things they enjoy as part of an Aspire Housing project and the children have had letters in response.
We are proud of our children and the way they are keen to help others!

Foodbank

We support Newcastle-Staffs foodbank during the harvest period and we also run a foodbank from school to support our parents and families.
A collection by our school community provided 127 meals for the local foodbank.

Community Litter Picks

We are proud to litter pick alongside Newcastle Borough Council in our local community.
The eco committee work hard to spread the word about the environment and keeping areas tidy.
